Initial Ideas for My Music Magazine.

Working title of magazine: Either INK'd or HARDCORE. I think I am going to choose INK'd over HARDCORE because I feel that the latter doesn't fit in with the whole theme as well as INK'd. INK'd covers tattoos, body art and music, whereas HARDCORE has a winder range of emotions and meanings - and this doesn't specify on what the magazine will be about.

Target Audience: I am aiming my magazine at both males and females between the ages of 14 - 30. Students and young adults that like hardcore/metal music and like tattoos/piercings are the main audience that I am hoping to target. My target audience wouldn't need a large amount of disposable income to be able to purchase my magazine because I am not going for the glossy magazine look, I'm going for a more rough, plain paper effect - therefore the cover price will be cheaper. I'm targeting people that wear brands such as Vans, Converse, Dr Martens and Criminal Damage. My ideal audience will also like brands such as Relentless, Jack Daniels, Download Festival, Harley Davidson, Marshall Equipment. They would also use brands like Youtube, 4OD, Scuzz, Kerrang!, Facebook, Myspace.com and Tumblr. They will have a heavy use of the internet, a rather heavy use of TV, read alot of magazines and the opposite for newspapers. They also listen to radio programmes like Kerrang! and Scuzz, and visit the cinema on rare occasions. The typical look of my ideal audience is a band tshirt, black skinny jeans, vans, and tattoo sleeves and piercings.

Price Point: I am hoping to publish my magazine at a price of £2.30. This is 10p more expensive of main rival Kerrang! but cheaper than other rivals such as Rocksound ( £1.70 cheaper ) and Metal Hammer ( £1.90 cheaper ).

Weekly or Monthly: I think I shall publish my magazine weekly, as there will always be stuff to report on and new and up and coming bands. As proven by research Kerrang! are more popular and make more money than Rocksound. Kerrang! is a weekly mag, Rocksound monthly, so I think I'd rather go with a weekly magazine.

Content: Once published, I believe that INK'd or HARDCORE will have everything a metalhead wants in a magazine. The magazine will contain bands such as Yashin, Of Mice & Men, The Blackout, Bury Tomorrow, Architects and Enter Shikari. I will also incorporate brands such as Vans, Relentless and Drop Dead clothing. I will have main features on bands and live reviews aswell as album reviews. My magazine will also contain free posters, and once a month a CD of the months best tracks. Every 3 months, I will release a poster issue, which is a magazine completely made up of posters. These posts will be of bands, like BMTH, Yashin, OM&M, The Blackout & etc, and will also contain posters of tattoo's and body art. and female models. My magazine will also focus on tattoos and piercings, such as tattoos of the week, band tattoos, interviews etc, and shops and styles and other features on tattoo and body art.

Style: The style of INK'd or HARDCORE will be informal, it will have alot of band pictures and pictures of tattoos/body art and a smaller amount of text, but still a considerable amount. The main colours used, will be red, black, white and grey, with a small amount of bright colours for the tattoos.  A lot of 'heavy metal' style font may be used.

Unique Selling Point ( USP ): Although there are magazines in the magazine market, like Kerrang!, Rocksound and Metal Hammer - my magazine combines both music and tattoos/body art. I have found one online magazine that covers both of these, but only reaches about 10 people - so there is still a niche in the market for a music/tattoo/bodyart magazine.
